However I noticed there are two mailboxes on two different stores.

Have an issue with all your Calendar Entries being out of sync by a set number of hours?

Make sure the time zone is correct on the device by doing the following:

1. Click on settings.

2. Click on mail, contacts, calendar

3. Scroll down to bottom to Time Zone Support

4. Change to correct time zone or shut it off.

I found that all my calendar entries in Exchange seemed to be out by 8 hours on the iPad, the correct times where on my pc.

I found out that the time zone was set to Cupertino which seems to be the default.

Apple tends to just list the capitals of Countries outside North America, as a result I change my setting to Edinburgh and bingo stingo the Calendar entries were all correct.

Cheers

There is a clumsy workaround but it’s the best that can be done until facebook fix it.

This fix will not only prevent non-friends from seeing your friends list but will also prevent friends from seeing the list.

After logging in:

Click Profile

Now scroll down to your friends widget

Click the edit button (the icon that looks like a pencil)

Untick the ‘show my friends on my profile’ option

That’s it protects your privacy a wee bit better.

I have now received my authorisation code for Lazyfeed which I am trying out.

Been a while since I blogged so thought I’d make it worthwhile.

This is good tip I found at Jim McBee’s blog (which I throughly recommend for exchange admins):

http://mostlyexchange.blogspot.com/2006/03/managing-mailboxes-in-aduc-without.html

To simplify it:

Go to you Exchange Server….

Specifically the drive letter you installed Exchange on:

e.g. C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\bin

Next look for and then copy the following dll’s:

address.dll
escprint.dll
exchmem.dll
glblname.dll
maildsmx.dll
pttrace.dll

Now Logon to the machine that you already have installed the Windows 2003 Admin Tools on and you wish the Exchange Users to be Administered from.

Paste the files into the System32 Directory of that machine:

e.g C:\WINDOWS\system32

Open the Run command, put in the following and click OK:

REGSVR32.EXE C:\windows\system32\maildsmx.dll

If you no longer wish this or you are looking to upgrade exchange 2003 I would recommend unregistering this which is done by

Open the Run command, put in the following and click OK:

REGSVR32.EXE -u C:\windows\system32\maildsmx.dll

Verry Nice trick, hopefully I can start blogging a few more useful tips soon.

Thanks again to Jim McBee’s blog for this one.

Again it’s been a while since I posted. Have been away a bit doing a tour of Speyside, I hope to get back soon it’s a fantastic bit of the world, all those distilleries…..anyway, this chart see below was a great guide to the taste/smell of whisky.

Whisky Wheel

However the MacAllan tour was a hands on way of doing @ £5 and a dram afterwards I would recommend it for a whisky beginner who doesn’t want to shell out £25 for nosing and tasting tour.

The other thing I found was that Black Bottle is the blend of choice in the Noth of Scotland, I even seen a 3 litre bottle almost empty @ Findhorn in the Crown & Anchor Inn, I had one there after getting the last dram of Bunnahabhain!

Hopefully this is the start of some more frequent blogging, Verrry Nice!!

Working on a number of things at the moment and will be tied up until near the end of the month, hopefully then things will calm down and I can get a few posts up and get some tweets out.

Sadly it looks like St Mirren are heading for the Division One, a complete lack of fight in the past couple of games.

How John Potter gets a game I’ll never know he makes Du Wei look like Fabio Cannavaro compared to his performances recently.

Now hoping Falkirk loose all their games as I can’t see us winning.

With Windows Server 2003 R2 theres a great tool that allows you to have folder and volume quotes and make the life of a network admin a bit easier.

This is installed automatically when you choose the File Server Role from Manage my server, problem is you need to be on that server to use the File Server Management Tool.

I don’t want to do that I already have Windows Server 2003 R2 Administration Tools Pack and Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit Tools installed on my Windows XP SP3 machine.

There is a seperate install to get the File Server Management Tools and you just connect to the server you wish to manage and it’s as easy as that.

You can download the Windows Server 2003 R2 Administration Tools Pack Tool 32-bit version and the seperate File Server Management tool (fsrmgmt.exe), here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=9bfb44f5-232a-4fb5-bc14-45bfd81b7ac1&DisplayLang=en

Also there is an overview word document Microsoft has provided here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=8A081A66-4FA0-42FE-AD43-2EF80DEE5F34&displaylang=en

I’ve been struggling with this for a while and hopefully I’ve found a blog article that will help me rather than the labyrinth that is the Cisco Website.

Will give this a shot the guy hasn’t blogged since 2007 but this is worth a go, will let you know how I get on…

Anyway here’s the link:

http://poodbrowntech.blogspot.com/2007/07/cisco-battle-with-wake-on-lan.html

The place I am currently employed, uses all CISCO equipment. This means getting in touch with your CLI side. I love the command line but IOS is a different breed of CLI. I can’t say that I don’t like…just sometimes it sucks.

Different IOSs do different things and different product lines only support certain IOS. Its really a vicious cycle of Cisco adding features to one and forcing customers to upgrade to get the better options.

As of late I was given the task of adding Wake on Lan to the environment to help out a team so that if their boxes went off line for some reason they could bring them back up remotely.

I began with some research into Wake on Lan technology and how it worked. Wake on lan basically involves the NIC of the machine being set up to listen while the computer is shut down but the NIC is still drawing power. The NIC is still listening on the network for the “magic” packet. This magic packet is a broadcast packet but what makes it special or magic is the data contained in it. The Mac address of the target machine is placed inside the data portion 12 to 14 times. Typically a udp packet it is a broadcast packet that is sent out usually over udp port 9.

At my place of employment we deploy higher end Cisco Catalyst 6500 series swithes. These guys have Layer 3 capabilities. As usually these are used as our distribution. We have several vlans that break up floors and other parts of the business. The team I was doing Wake on Lan for was coming from several different vlans and going to several vlans. Here is one of the problems with Wake on Lan intervlan (layer 3), broadcasts can’t just go across vlans.

You have to help out the routing, just like in DHCP we use the ip helper address. The ip helper address tells the interface vlan what address to point to for broadcasts.

Here is the setup:

2 6500s for distributions connected together with 4Gb etherchannel then 2 2Gb channels to Access layer switches on various floors.

All vlans are on the distribution layer.

We have numerous vlans as said before here is an example of the vlans and the config needed for Wake on Lan.

interface Vlan20
description 1st Floor Vlan Wake on Lan Client
ip address 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0
ip directed-broadcast 100

interface Vlan30
description 2nd Floor Vlan Wake on Lan Client
ip address 192.168.2.0 255.255.255.0
ip directed-broadcast 100

interface vlan40
description Wake on Lan Server
ip address 192.168.3.0 255.255.255.0
ip helper-address 192.168.1.255
ip helper-address 192.168.2.255

ip forward-protocol udp 9

access-list 100 permit udp host 192.168.3.2 any eq 9

The next commands should be placed on the access switches with the mac address of your various Wake on Lan clients. The reason just in case you run into the same problem I did with the mac address falling out of the table.

mac-address-table static 0014.09CA.1ad8 vlan 20 interface gi 1/0/1

After all the research and testing and now I can do Wake on Lan in my sleep. Anyway I just thought I would throw that out there on the Interwebs.
